About two weeks ago, we told you that new Invoices and Estimates were on their way to QuickBooks Online. The article discussed features that were continuing to be rolled-out in the new experience, and that some would overlap in the existing (old) experience until the final merger into new.

Well, recent enhancements to QuickBooks Online Invoices is making recurring invoices available to all subscription levels of QBO (Simple Start, Essentials, Plus or Advanced). It makes you wonder just how fast Intuit can crank out new features?

Now, all users of QuickBooks Online products can determine if recurring invoices fit their business requirements, and then they can select the best schedule (daily, weekly, monthly or yearly) by which to automatically invoice their customers on a recurring basis. 

In addition, their customers also will have the option to set-up automatic payments for those recurring invoices.

If you are working in the new Invoice Experience, you can open an existing Invoice transaction, and then in the footer of the form, select Automation, followed by Recurring invoice.

On the other hand, if you still are working in the old Invoice Experience, open an existing transaction. In the footer of the form, select Make recurring to create a template (or Enable Recurring Payments).

If you start using Recurring Invoices on a regular basis, you probably will want to review your recurring transactions at some point. 

You can see all your recurring transactions in one place using a Recurring Template List report.  To access this report follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Business overview then select Reports, or go to Reports
  2. Locate, then open the Recurring Template List
  3. To customize the report, choose Customize
  4. Select to expand the Filter section
  5. Select the Distribution Account checkbox; you can select specific accounts from the drop-down, as appropriate
  6. Choose Run report

The Recurring Template List report shows the amounts for each transaction, and which accounts they are linked to.
